The Haxtun Conservation District has awarded this year’s Wally Bruce Science Award to Northeast Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES).
Career and tech education coordinator Gary Koch submitted a request for “Ecological Principles & Management” curriculum published by CEV Multimedia. It includes 10 lessons and 36 days of teaching materials with DVD presentations.
Fleming, Haxtun and Holyoke schools all participate in career and technical agriculture programs and will benefit from this educational program.
Koch stated in his request, “The instructors will use the resources to supplement their natural resources environmental pathway content.”
This educational tool includes lessons in basic environmental science, fundamentals of forestry, game management, tree ID and water resources, just to name a few.
The curriculum will be housed at the NE BOCES where ag instructors can check out the materials as needed.
The Haxtun Conservation District annually accepts requests from various organizations for the Wally Bruce Science Award. If anyone who resides or serves within the boundaries of the Haxtun Conservation District has a project they would like to implement or need materials to further educate in the fields of science, contact Denise Swanson, Haxtun Conservation District manager, at 854-2812 ext. 110.
It’s never too early to start planning; the deadline for next year’s award will be in February of 2014.
