Holyoke swimmers place well in season opener at home PDF Print E-mail

    Holyoke Swim Club hosted the first meet of the season for the Northwest Kansas Swim League Saturday, May 30. The day was sunny, the events ran smoothly and Holyoke placed fourth overall.
    Several new members joined the team this summer and coach Brenda Krueger said she is very proud of them and how well they placed at their first swim meet.
    Commenting on the team’s disqualifications, Krueger said they let the coaches know what the team needs to work on.
    Team standings at the end of the day were Goodland winning the meet with 220 points. Colby followed with 211 points, Wray 194, Holyoke 165, Oberlin 154, Burlington 139, Flagler 53 and Oakley 9.
    Other coaches are Adria Colver, Aly Brinkema and Brittany Young. Coaches could be seen throughout the day offering advice to their returning swimmers and encouraging the more hesitant rookies.
    This week the club will travel to Burlington for their Saturday, June 6 meet.

    Individual results for the Holyoke  swimmers are as follows:
8 and Under
    Girls—Emily Jelden—1st, 50 yd. freestyle; 1st, 25 yd. breaststroke; 1st, 100 yd. individual medley (IM).
    Kyra Loutensock—2nd, 25 yd. freestyle; 2nd, 25 yd. backstroke.
    Brenna Sullivan—2nd, 25 yd. butterfly.
    Morganne Kumm—2nd, 100 yd. IM.
    Lauren Bergner—5th, 25 yd. backstroke.
    100 yd girls’ freestyle relay—1st, Sullivan, Josie Herman, Lali Marquez and Kumm.
    Also competing were Shianne Willmon and Kristin Vieselmeyer.
    Boys—Keegan Shaw—2nd, 25 yd. backstroke; 3rd, 50 yd. freestyle; 5th, 25 yd. freestyle.
    Seth Watson—5th, 25 yd. backstroke.

    Girls—Emily Krogmeier—1st, 100 yd. IM; 2nd, 100 yd. freestyle; 2nd, 25 yd. butterfly.
    Tara Krueger— 1st, 25 yd. breaststroke; 2nd, 25 yd. backstroke.
