Mix it up

These recipes literally take 15 minutes in the microwave and are great for the Big Game this weekend or a family movie night at your house. It’s amazing how many recipes Chex has come up with! They’ve got every combination imaginable—sweet and chocolatey, salty and cheesy, hot and spicy—with everything from apple pie and lemonade to cajun and oriental.

Here are just a few combos that I decided to try this week. Of course, I couldn’t leave out the Muddy Buddies (otherwise known as Puppy Chow). You can’t talk about Chex Mix and not have Puppy Chow!! So go ahead—mix it up!

Goin’ Fishin’ Chex® Mix

3 tablespoons butter or margarine
9 cups Corn Chex®, Rice Chex® or Wheat
Chex® cereal (or combination)
2 cups tiny pretzel fish-shaped crackers
2 cups bite-size cheese crackers
1 package (1 ounce) ranch dressing
and seasoning mix
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

In large microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on high about 30 seconds or until melted. Stir in cereal and crackers until evenly coated. Stir in dressing mix and cheese until evenly coated. Microwave uncovered on high 3 minutes, stirring after every minute. Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool, about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

Chex® Muddy Buddies®

9 cups Rice Chex®, Corn Chex® or Chocolate
Chex® cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar    

Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on high 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Chex® Breakfast-to-Go

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup Corn Chex® cereal
1 cup Rice Chex® cereal
1 cup Wheat Chex® cereal
1 cup Honey Nut Cheerios® cereal
3/4 cup toasted sliced almonds
1 cup dried banana chips
1/2 cup dried blueberries or raisins

In small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. In large microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on high about 40 seconds or until melted. Stir in cereals and almonds until evenly coated. Microwave uncovered on high 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute. Stir in sugar mixture and banana chips until evenly coated. Microwave uncovered on High 1 minute. Spread on paper towels to cool. Place in serving bowl; stir in blueberries. Store in airtight container.
