Dylan Kotch finished second at 220 lbs. and Jesus Hermosillo took third at 195 lbs. to lead the Dragon wrestlers to a 68-point finish in the Fort Collins Arnold Torgerson Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Jan. 5.
Twelve Dragons wrestled in the tourney, with nine of them earning at least one match win.
Hermosillo was 3-1; Dylan Kotch 2-1; Nick Ortner, Leo Ortiz, T.J. Gertner and Astolfo Rojo were all 2-2 for the day; and Issac Brandt, Ben Martinez and Spencer Kotch went 1-2.
Four Dragons dropped a weight, and Astolfo Rojo dropped clear down from a light heavyweight to 182’s after the first of the year.

Coach Jack Garrison said the Dragons were a little flat coming off the holiday break, but part of that could be due to dropping weight. They’re getting used to their new weights, but he feels it is making the team stronger. Garrison said he’s glad to be back to a consistent practice schedule following the holidays.
Hermosillo and Dylan Kotch both wrestled well, said Garrison. Hermosillo lost his semifinal match in a two-point decision to the eventual champion but came back strong to take third. Kotch met a very tough senior wrestler in the finals. He wrestled him well but lost an eight-point decision.
Fossil Ridge won the Jan. 5 tournament with 183.5 points, followed by Legacy 135, Longmont 106, Roosevelt 100, Fort Collins 93.5, Gateway 93.5, Poudre 81.5, Fort Morgan 72, Mountain Vista 69, Smoky Hill 69, Holyoke 68, Loveland 66.5, Akron 57.5, Northridge 56, Sand Creek 52 and Skyline 4.5.
The JV team wrestled a round robin tournament at Grant, Neb. Tuesday, Jan. 8, with results to appear in next week’s Enterprise.
This Saturday, Jan. 12, the varsity wrestlers will head to Chase County, Neb., while the JV team will compete at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins.
