Big blizzard leaves town dreaming of a white Christmas PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Holyoke received 3.4 inches of snow last Wednesday, Dec. 19 as a strong winter storm blasted the area. Thursday morning, Dec. 20, the snow blowers were out in full force clearing paths through drifts of snow. Strong winds created drifts all over town making travel tough.

The blizzard-like conditions forced administrators in the Holyoke School District to send students home early Wednesday morning. Above, this group of students was bundled up as they made their way back to school Thursday morning.

The Goldenstein family, below, took advantage of the big snow when they built this larger-than-life snowman Saturday, Dec. 22. Family members are pictured from left, Alan, Sydney, Melissa, Luke, Adison, Cooper, Jaydin, Emy (in front), Bryton, Deanna, Kelyn and Clint.

The snow kept falling Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25, giving Holyoke an iconic white Christmas. Weather reports gave the area another 2-3 inches over the holiday, and although the white snowfall made for a pretty scene, temps were not so pretty with a high of 12 degrees and low temps reaching -11 on Christmas Day.
