Blizzard nails Holyoke PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Talk of lots of snow spread throughout Holyoke and the surrounding area early last week. The town went to bed Tuesday night, Dec. 18 thinking it would wake up to blizzard-like conditions Wednesday morning. That didn’t happen, but as people went to work Wednesday, Dec. 19 the snow began to fall. Throughout the morning it picked up—as did the wind. By late morning, Holyoke and much of northeast Colorado was experiencing the first major blizzard of the year.

Visibility was extremely poor. Above, it was tough to see even one block in town. On the highways, visibility was even worse. At 11:30 a.m. the sirens sounded in Holyoke, summoning the Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department to a motor vehicle accident north of town on Highway 385. The accident, which resulted in two fatalities, shut down the highway until midafternoon. More information on the accident can be found inside this edition of the Enterprise.

Below, City of Holyoke crews were out in full force, clearing snow along Highway 6 Thursday morning, Dec. 20.
