By far the smallest team competing against nine other schools, HHS swimmers swam hard, with many setting new personal records at the Valley Viking Invitational Saturday, Dec. 1.
There were 75 competitors in the 50-yd. freestyle alone.
Coach Luke Thomas said several of the Holyoke girls were surprised at how fast they were able to swim in the first meet of the season.
Several new swimmers, including Jentry Andersen, Ashley Humphreys and Anastasia Conklin, were swimming in their very first meet. Thomas said they were all nervous, but exceeded their own expectations.
“It was a great way to start the season, and they will only get better as the season continues,” said Thomas.
Dragon swimmer Ashley Humphreys competes in breaststroke competition at the Valley Viking Invitational Saturday, Dec. 1.
In individual events, freshman Dani Brandt finished 9th in the 100-yd. butterfly, setting a new personal record from her summer swimming.
Senior LaKyla Moore placed 10th in the 100-yd. butterfly and 10th in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Lori McWilliams set a new personal record in the 50-yd. freestyle.
Brandt, McWilliams, Moore and Jayden Durbin teamed up to place 7th out of 24 in the 200-yd. freestyle relay. The same quartet placed 11th out of 27 in the medley relay.
The HHS team is scheduled to swim at the league relays in Greeley Thursday, Dec. 6 and will meet Eaton at Valley Tuesday, Dec. 11.
