|Nora Roth to attend Girls State|

Holyoke High School junior Nora Roth has been selected to attend the 2009 Colorado Columbine Girls State session at Western State College in Gunnison, June 14-19.
Colorado Columbine Girls State is a program of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Colorado. With a history dating back over 50 years, the program is a hands-on training session in local and state goverment, voting, the legislative process, patriotism and the rights and duties of all citizens of the United States.
Activities at Girls State include campaigning, elections, legislative sessions, an annual flag program, parliamentary procedure instruction, newspaper production, judicial presentation and extraordinary guest speakers.
Nora Roth is the daughter of Martin and Laura Roth.
As a freshman, she served as her class’s Student Council representative and was sophomore class treasurer.
An active member of FCCLA, she has received numerous awards, including a first-place gold at the 2009 State Leadership Conference meeting for parliamentary procedure. She also received a gold ranking at Nationals for parliamentary procedure and a second-place gold at State for her Focus on Children project. She has been a ROSE award recipient for three straight years.
In addition, Roth has participated in volleyball, basketball and cheerleading, having lettered in all three sports. She is also a three-year participant in the HS Select Choir and has received high rankings at Solo and Ensemble Recitals. She is a two-year recipient of the Outstanding Stage Presence Award at State Show Choir.
Other activities Roth has participated in during the last three years are the Spring Musical, Safari Club, FBLA and her church youth group.
She has also served as secretary for the Cadenza Club, is a two-year member of the Get REAL Coalition and is on the Principal’s Honor Roll.
