Written by Holyoke Enterprise

In a new event on the HHS schedule, HHS band members performed a 2012 Marching Band Showcase in the school auditorium Thursday, Oct. 25.

Included in the event’s entertainment were the Pep Band program for the Marching Band season, the halftime show with a drumline feature and Color Guard routine and a senior feature percussion ensemble.

Band instructor Mitsuko Martinez directed the program.

Acknowledgement was given by Martinez and the band to former band director Pat Wiebers, thanking her for her dedication as she provided cinnamon rolls for early-morning practices and in general showed full support for the band.

Pep Band program songs kicked off last week’s program, as band members performed numbers that they played from the stands during the football home games this season.

Holyoke Fight Song started the program, followed by The Hey Song, Go Big Green, Great Balls of Fire, We Didn’t Start the Fire, Proud Mary, Land of 1,000 Dances, The Final Countdown, My Sharona, Gonna Fly Now, My Girl and YMCA.

The 2012 Halftime Show performance included I Get Around and California Dreaming. A drumline feature with Ben Martinez and Alyssa Cordova was included, as well as Color Guard routines.

Members of the Color Guard are Alyssa Livermore, Kaetlynne Overton, Destiny Lohman, Dani Brandt, Lori McWilliams, Josilyn Lutze and eighth-graders Whitney Powell and Tori Biersdorfer. They are coached by Melody Denbo.

A senior feature, The Final Cadence, concluded Thursday night’s program. The original percussion ensemble composition was directed by percussionists Alyssa Cordova and Ben Martinez.

They included fellow seniors Molly Brandt, Camille Elliott and Lindsay Helgoth in the show, as well. It was noted that senior Matt Golden had played in the ensemble when it was a halftime show, but he was unable to attend last week’s program.

Director Martinez acknowledged band officers, including Molly Brandt, president; and Ana Conklin, band librarian.
