Written by Holyoke Enterprise

June was an eventful month for Richard Brown of Holyoke as he was recognized for
50 years of dedication to the Holyoke Lions Club and the National Rural Letter Carriers
Association.

At the start of the month Brown attended the Colorado Rural Letter Carriers conference
in Ignacio June 1-3 and was presented with a pin and certificate for his 50 years of service.

Brown has been actively involved with the Rural Letter Carriers Association as a member
of the state board for 33 years holding many appointed and elected offices including
state editor for 29 years, state secretary for 18 years and state president and vice
president for two years each.

During the past 50 years, Brown had the opportunity to attend 34 national conventions
and develop friendships all over the country.

With the Lions Club, Brown served as president for two years and secretary for 11 years,
with two years as the district secretary for Northeast Colorado.

Local Lions presented Brown with a plaque during their annual steak fry and installation
of officers Thursday, June 28, honoring his dedication, service and support.

When he moved to Holyoke, Brown wanted to join the Lions Club to get to know people
in the community. Fifty years later he recalls good memories of Lions meetings filled with
jokes and quality time spent with friends.  —Enterprise photo
