Marissa Smith, a women’s track and field athlete at Colorado State University, was one of 56 CSU student-athletes to earn Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors for their work in the classroom during the 2011-12 academic year. The Mountain West Scholar-Athlete award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible, student athletes must have participated in varsity competition and maintained a 3.5 grade point average. Fifteen of CSU’s 16 varsity athletic programs were honored by the Mountain West. Smith is a 2010 graduate of Holyoke High School and the daughter of David and Rhonda Smith of Holyoke.
