Local swimmers set 10 pool records in Colby PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Ten pool records in Colby, Kan. fell to Holyoke swimmers Saturday, June 16.

Records in four individual events and six relays will be updated to note Holyoke efforts this year.

This is only the second year for Colby’s new pool, so records broken were those which were set just one year ago. In some cases, Holyoke swimmers broke their own records from 2011.

Kristin Vieselmeyer set two individual records in the 8 and under girls’ division. She swam :47.31 for the 50 meter free record and broke her own 2011 record in the 25 m backstroke with a time of :24.43.

Danielle Brandt set a record of 1:31.68 in the 13-14 girls’ butterfly, breaking last year’s record by six and a half seconds.

Elise Krogmeier set an 8 and under girls’ record of :26.89 in the 25 m breaststroke.

The 9-10 mixed freestyle relay and mixed medley relay both set new records with swimmers Emily Jelden, Seth Watson, Lali Marquez and Morganne Kumm.

The 9-10 mixed freestyle time was 1:16.68, breaking last year’s record by almost eight seconds. Their medley relay time was 1:36.50, an improvement of three seconds.

Holyoke’s girls’ 13-14 relay team set two new relay records, as well.

Dani Brandt, Lori McWilliams, Tara Krueger and Emily Krogmeier posted a 2:20.97 record in the 200 meter freestyle relay, breaking Holyoke’s record last year by just over six seconds.

The same quartet set a record of 2:39.47 in the 200 meter freestyle relay, breaking Holyoke’s 2011 record by 10.41 seconds.

Elby Kropp, Levi Dille, Koby Way and Elise Krogmeier teamed up to set a 2:07.11 record in the 8 and under 100 m mixed freestyle relay.

In 11-12 200 m mixed medley relay competition, Keegan Shaw, Anna Jelden, Regan Van Overbeke and Grace Dille clocked a 3:28.48 to take 20.81 seconds off last year’s record.

In 13-14 girls’ action, Lori McWilliams placed second and Tara Krueger third in the 100 m breaststroke, both with record-breaking times. However, the first-place winner’s time will go on the books.

In 13-14 girls’ individual medley competition, Emily Krogmeier broke last year’s pool record, but placed second.

Likewise, the 11-12 200 m mixed freestyle relay team broke the standing record, but finished second.

Holyoke scored 169 points to place fourth last week—just one point ahead of fifth-place Wray.

Goodland won the meet with 256.5 points, followed by Colby 212, Burlington 185.5, Holyoke 169, Wray 168, Oberlin 157, Oakley 71 and Flagler 38.

Despite the longer length of Colby’s pool, Holyoke swimmers earned numerous time drops and first-place finishes, noted coach Adria Colver. She was proud of all competitors.

Colver cited Malena McWilliams, who had an outstanding swim in the 100 m breaststroke in 15-18 girls’ competition.

This Saturday, June 23, the Northwest Kansas Swim League travels to Burlington.
