Work on the final phase at Homesteaders Park is nearing completion, reported Phillips County commissioners at their May 31 meeting.
They are hoping the majority of the enhancement project will be done by the end of June. Curb and gutter work is scheduled to be done in about a week, and paving for the parking lot is set for the last two weeks of June. The final stage includes benches and grass.
The handicap accessible playground, turf field and nine-hole frisbee golf course are all in place now and are getting some use at Homesteaders Park.
The community is invited to a grand opening celebration at Homesteaders Park Sunday, July 15 at 4 p.m. Hot dogs and refreshments will be served with a freewill donation.
Also at the Phillips County Fairgrounds, the county has been working on the installation of a new handicap ramp at the grandstands.
A new website for the county was recently launched May 23. Residents are encouraged to visit www.colorado.gov/phil lipscounty.
Commissioners reported they will be involved in the upcoming Rural Philanthropy Days in Fort Morgan June 21.
Additionally in their month-end report, commissioners said the Public Utilities Commission approved the change from private to public railroad crossing designation for the new Seaboard Foods pellet mill being constructed two miles west of Holyoke.
