Vocalists hit the stage for spring choral concert PDF Print E-mail

Holyoke junior high and high school choir members celebrated spring last Tuesday, May 8 at their annual spring choral concert at the HHS auditorium.

Choirs are under the direction of Marcia Dalton. She also teams up with Maury Kramer to direct the high school Select Choir.

Junior high vocalists hit the stage for “Fireflies,” “Firework,” “Beach Boys Blast” and “Count on Me.”

A special junior high girls group came together for “Song of Peace.” Members included Dani Brandt, Lori McWilliams, Kaitlyn Lenhart, Emily Krogmeier, Whitney Powell, Megan Humphreys, Tara Krueger, Jaxie Gerk, Mackenzie Thompson, Josilyn Lutze, Megan Parker and Juana Penzing.

The high school choir entertained with “Riversong,” “Journey in Peace” with flute soloist Amy Krogmeier, “Rocky Top” and “The Lion King Medley” with soloists Becca Weaver, Shellie Hysell and Alex McCallum. Sharon Strauss assisted with piano accompaniment.

A combined junior and senior high choir performed “Like an Eagle.”

Select Choir sang “ABC,” “Prayer of the Children” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” Kramer’s arrangement of “Save Tonight” featured Select’s senior members Austin Killin, Brooke Parker, Whitni Redman, Mariah Struckmeyer, Payin Becerra and Jordan Zeiler.

“Follow Me” featured the Select Choir men as well as Jaydin Goldenstein on guitar.

A number of solos added to the spring concert’s variety. They included Camille Elliott singing “Set Fire to the Rain,” Natasha Peregoy “Butterfly Fly Away,” Elissa Baker “Never Alone,” Mariah Struckmeyer “Amen” and Brooke Parker “I’ll Stand By You.”

José Jaquez and Payin Becerra partnered for a duet called “Flight.” Vocalist Brittney Prottsman was accompanied by guitarists Ben Martinez and Jacob Vasa for her solo “Bubbly,” and Martinez joined soloist Jordan Zeiler with his guitar on “What a Wonderful World.”

Pre-concert entertainment included songs by Kaety Overton, Lynnette Stark, Becca Weaver, Erin and Megan Vieselmeyer, Megan Humphreys and Brooke, Ryan and Megan Parker.

Also at Tuesday’s concert, Dalton recognized senior members Payin Becerra, Carolina Hermosillo, Shellie Hysell, Austin Killin, Amy Krogmeier, Brooke Parker, Natasha Peregoy, Whitni Redman, Mariah Struckmeyer and Jordan Zeiler as well as foreign exchange student Lea Häfliger.
