Calendar events needed

Fair Queen applications due soon

All girls ages 12-20 who enjoy riding horses and would like to try out for Phillips County Fair Queen or Princess should go to www.phillipscofair.com to see the handbook and fill out an application.

Applications are also available at the CSU Extension office. Deadline to apply is Friday, June 1. Contest will be held Monday, July 23. For any questions, please call the Phillips County Queen coordinator Pam Haynes at 854-5700.

 

Blood drive is Wednesday

HVFD called

Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department was called Wednesday, May 9 at 1:12 a.m. A driver hit a gas meter in the 200 block of North Phelan Avenue and then left. HVFD shut the gas off and called SourceGas.

Wednesday, May 9, HVFD was called to Holyoke Elementary School to an alarm at 11:30 a.m. They were called back before arriving. The alarm went off due to some work being done on it.

At 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the department responded to a controlled burn that had gotten out of control four miles south on Highway 385. The fire did some damage to a tree line.
