|Gardner, Shaffer accept nominations for CD 4|

Congressman Cory Gardner, Republican, and Colorado State Senate president Brandon Shaffer, Democrat, have both accepted nominations for U.S. Representative for the 4th Congressional district and will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Gardner, the Republican nominee and incumbent, was elected to Congress in 2010, defeating Democrat incumbent Betsy Markey. He has served the past two years and is a member of the committee on Energy and Commerce. He lives with his wife Jaime and their two children in Yuma.
Shaffer is a third-generation Coloradan and former Naval officer. He was elected to represent Longmont in the Colorado Senate in 2004 and was unanimously elected president of the Colorado State Senate in 2009.
Candidates wishing to run were required to file by the signature filing deadline of April 2.
The 4th Congressional district includes most of the rural Eastern Plains as well as the larger cities of Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland and Longmont.
