Grainland Cooperative held a successful Harvest for Hunger drive March 1-16, collecting 338 pounds of food plus $2,236.49 in donations including 200 bushels of corn. Donated items are pictured. This was part of a bigger project spearheaded by CHS Inc., the company Grainland merged with last year. It was the CHS goal to raise 2 million meals for families in need. Across the country, CHS raised 2.4 million meals.
Grainland employee and project coordinator Kayla Young said all the money donated will go to the Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver. All food donated will be distributed to four area food pantries: First United Methodist and Zion Lutheran churches in Holyoke; Haxtun Community Food Basket run by Haxtun United Methodist Church; and Julesburg Christian Church pantry.
