Aldemar Chavez-Vasquez Eleazar Medina-Cienfuegos
The two deaths and one critical injury resulted from a tragic two-vehicle collision Saturday, March 24 at the intersection of Phillips County Road 41 and Phillips County Road 18 (one mile east and two miles south of the stoplight in Holyoke).
Trooper Scott Boskovich of the Colorado State Patrol investigated the 6:55 p.m. accident.
He reported Medina-Cienfuegos was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang northbound on County Road 41, and Chavez-Vasquez was a passenger in the car. Jacoby was westbound on County Road 18 in a 2005 Dodge 2500 pickup.
Jacoby failed to yield at the yield sign and collided with the passenger side of the car in the intersection, according to the CSP report.
The Mustang was pushed off the northwest corner of the intersection, rotating clockwise, and came to rest on its wheels, facing east. The pickup started to rotate clockwise and ran off the northwest corner of the intersection. It became broadside with the driver’s side leading and started to overturn twice. As it overturned the first time, the driver was ejected. The pickup came to final rest on its wheels, facing north.
Boskovich reported, “Alcohol is being investigated as a contributer in this crash.”
Holyoke Volunteer Fire Dept. was called and some extrication was required.
Chavez-Vasquez died at the scene. Mustang driver Medina-Cienfuegos was taken to Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, where he died at 7:36 p.m., about 40 minutes after the accident. Jacoby was transported to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
