|Holyoke girls suffer rough weekend|

Both Akron and Caliche continue their undefeated girls’ basketball seasons with big wins over the Lady Dragons last weekend.
It was a tough couple of days on the road for Holyoke. They lost in Akron 33-65 Friday, Jan. 27. Saturday was no better, with a 26-63 loss at Caliche.
“What a tough weekend of games,” said coach Arlan Scholl.
He said they will continue to work hard and try to improve their skills and be more competitive. The girls have a busy week coming up, with four games in seven days.
Holyoke 33, Akron 65
Heading into a tough game last Friday, the Akron Rams proved they were number one-ranked for a reason.
Akron put up big numbers early in the game, finishing the first quarter ahead 25-9. They continued to outscore the Dragons, putting up a big 65-33 win over Holyoke.
In Dragon stats, Laura Gerk and Erin Vieselmeyer were both in the double digits, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.
Erin Vieselmeyer brought down the most rebounds with 10. She and Maddie King each had a block while Audi Peña had two steals Friday night.
Holyoke 26, Caliche 63
Saturday, Jan. 28 was a repeat of Friday, as the Dragons were completely overwhelmed by a competitive Caliche team.
The Buffaloes kept Holyoke to single digits in all four quarters while Caliche consistently added to their lead, taking the 63-26 win.
Laura Gerk was again the point leader, scoring 19 out of Holyoke’s 26 points including five two-pointers, two from behind the arc and three for four in free throws.
Laura Gerk also led Dragon rebounds with seven.
Erin Vieselmeyer, Chandler Gerk and Laura Gerk each had one block with Laura Gerk coming away with two steals and two assists.
This Friday, Feb. 3, the Lady Dragons will host a Pink Out game against Burlington beginning at 4 p.m. The following day, Saturday, Feb. 4, they are at home again with Wray, starting at 3 p.m.
Next week, Holyoke hosts Dundy County, Neb. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. It’s another Phillips County shootout Thursday, Feb. 9 when Haxtun comes to Holyoke for 4 p.m. games.
