|Deadline announced for enhancement program|

The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in partnership with the Republican River Water Conservation District (RRWCD) is announcing funding availability and application cut-off dates for the Republican River Agricultural Water Enhancement Program (AWEP).
Applications for the Republican River AWEP must be received by the local NRCS field office by close of business March 16.
The Republican River AWEP offers incentive payments for permanent irrigation water retirement and cost-share for installing certain conservation practices.
The Republican River AWEP aims to coordinate federal, state and local efforts that address specific water quantity issues throughout the Basin in Colorado. All irrigated acres enrolled in the Republican River AWEP will require permanent irrigation water retirement to ensure long-term conservation benefits.
Land offered for enrollment into the program will be ranked using NRCS developed ranking criteria and must meet NRCS eligibility requirements. Successful applicants will be required to relinquish water rights in perpetuity.
In addition to signing a contract with NRCS, all enrolled participants will be required to sign a contract with the RRWCD and must submit an application to the Colorado Division of Water Resources to cancel the affected water right.
RRWCD staff, NRCS staff and/or technical service providers will work with landowners to determine suitable conservation practices on enrolled land.
Applications will be accepted at the local NRCS field offices until March 16. For general program questions or to make an appointment to apply, call the local NRCS field offices within the Republican River Basin or the RRWCD office at 970-332-3552.
