Virgil Harms’ 50-year reign as mayor of Paoli made national news last week when the five-decade mayor was interviewed and featured in a brief segment on CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley Friday, Jan. 20.
The day before the South Carolina primary election, the news show was full of politics. The CBS crew found it hard to believe the Paoli Town Board members don’t even know the party affiliation of their fellow board members. Harms admitted he doesn’t even like politics.
The three-man CBS crew including a producer, reporter/correspondent and cameraman traveled from New York to spend the day in Paoli Wednesday, Jan. 18.
They visited at length with Harms and his wife Eloise, as well as town clerk/Paoli postmaster Marilyn Miller. Their day in Paoli ended with the 7 p.m. Town Board meeting at Paoli Town Hall.
