Holyoke Elementary School art teacher Christina Martinez and three of her students and their parents, attended the Lions Club meeting Thursday, Feb. 24 to celebrate their participation in the Lions Club Peace Poster Contest.
Students age 11-13, enter on the local level, and the winners all receive cash awards. Posters are judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of theme.
The first-place local poster is then sent to the state competition, and the state winner competes for the national title.
After that, the national winning poster moves on to the international contest. This year, the international winner came from Thailand.
While Holyoke’s entries did not win at the state level, they showed a lot of imagination and thought.
Bryce Cornett took first place with her poster. José Prieto won second and Morgan Philips earned third.
