Over 14,000 acres of sand-hills and open rangeland were burned in a prairie fire fueled by winds and bone-dry conditions last week in Yuma County.

Cindy Wheeler has taken over as administrator of Holyoke Health and Rehab.

HJHS eighth-grader Marissa Smith won the State Free Throw contest in the girls’ 14-year-old division this past weekend in Pueblo.

FCCLA members stress the dangers of drunk driving with the “Every 15 Minutes” program.

Holyoke’s FBLA chapter is teaming up with members of the National Honor Society at Holyoke High School to provide a tutoring program for all local junior high students.

Maureen Anne McNicholl will be providing information about the benefits of acupuncture as a new service to those who attend this year’s Community Health Fair.

A new height-adjustable bathing system, which includes a whirlpool unit, a handheld whirlpool, a chair trolley and a bed trolley, has been installed at Prairie Vista Care Center in Holyoke.

Bill and Leona Mason of Holyoke recently received a framed “Special Service Award” from the National Weather Service, recognizing the years of service the Masons volunteered in assisting the late F.B. and Myra Flanagan with the weather recording in Holyoke.

Rev. Clyde Vandergrift, Holyoke Church of the Nazarene’s new pastor, held his first services March 7.

Holyoke’s municipal baseball park will have a new electric scoreboard for the 1971 baseball season due to the generosity of Mrs. Charles R. Sheridan of Holyoke.

Holyoke FFA chapter members, under the direction of their advisor, Jim Knight, have started “Operation Search and Recycle,” searching out owners of old junkers and obtaining permission to have the junkers transported to the car press to be set up at the old town dump.

A self-service laundry has been opened at the Cedar Motel by the motel owners, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Dunn. The business will be known as Dunn’s Self-Service Laundry.

John D. Baldwin of John Baldwin Chevrolet Company of Holyoke has been elected to the Denver zone Buick dealer council.
