Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Phillips County Arts Council presents the incomparable Simon and Son, the only international father and son piano team on the concert circuit today. The team will perform at HHS auditorium Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.

Holyoke High School students will kick off the evening at 7 p.m. with excerpts from the musical “Bye Bye Birdie” that will be performed at the end of March.

It’s world-class entertainment for the whole family, with high energy programs ranging from Liszt to Liberace to Gershwin. Pianists Peter and Saling Simon will present a dazzling evening of keyboard acrobatics popular and classical music and humorous concert tales about travels on the world concert stage. This is a unique opportunity to see two of America’s top performers.

The son, Saling (pronounced Sailing), has delayed his final year of college to be involved with his father (Peter) on this current tour. Saling has been doing these tours with his father since he was a budding teenager.

In addition to the wonderful piano duets played by this unique and innovative team, sometimes the audience will see Saling at the piano with Peter playing the clarinet and sometimes Saling will take over the drums and execute a magnificent version of the famous drum solo of “Wipeout.”

A hit of the evening is always an astounding duet version of the William Tell Overture—the Lone Ranger theme music—as even the Lone Ranger has surely never heard it!

From Carnegie Hall, “Simon and Son are engaging personalities, charmingly good natured, worthy of Borge at his best. Their piano playing is a real joy,”—New York Concert Review Magazine.

The duo will be in Fort Morgan Thursday, March 3 for a 7 p.m. show in the Glenn Miller Auditorium at the high school. Phillips County Arts Council ticket holders are able to attend the show in Fort Morgan through the reciprocity with Morgan County Concert Association.
