FCCLA week celebrated PDF Print E-mail
Written by Holyoke Enterprise

Holyoke FCCLA members plan to make an even larger impact on the community the week of Feb. 8-12, which is announced as National FCCLA week. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members from all over the nation will plan to take part in this large event.

With more than 220,000 mem-bers participating, they will carry out activities concerning both teens and society through Family and Consumer Sciences.

“Motivation in Motion” is the theme this year for the event, and members plan to carry out this momentous slogan for the occasion.

During this week, Holyoke FCCLA members have decided to recognize some of Holyoke’s own heroes in the community. Right before lunch, clues are given out to all students about a person in the community who has been a hero. Students then have the opportunity to give the answers to the office, and a prize is given to the first person with the right answer.

While participating in the national FCCLA week, members continue to work on their STAR event projects they will compete in at the state meeting.

Some of these events follow:

In Applied Technology, students will use technology in order to address concerns related to Family and Consumer Sciences.

Other projects such as entrepreneurship are projects based on a member’s ability to form a small business plan along with being able to present the information in an organized and orderly fashion.

In a Job Interview event, a student will prepare himself or herself for a professional interview. The student will be asked a series of questions concerning a career they may be interested in.

Another project is Illustrated Talk which lets students choose any topic they are interested in and present that topic orally.

Chapter Showcase is an event where members develop and implement a well-balanced program of work and promote FCCLA skills in the community.

Others include Career Investigation, Chapter Service Project, Focus on Children, Interpersonal Communications, Life Event Planning, National Programs in Action, Parliamentary Procedure and Recycle and Redesign.

The Family Career and Community Leaders of America members are both excited and thrilled to participate in events they feel will make a difference in their community, home and school.

They thank the community for all the support, and acknowledge the community’s heroes as well.
