HHS junior Whitni Redman was elected Northeast District FCCLA president at the Wednesday, Jan. 26 winter meeting at NJC in Sterling. Redman just completed her one-year term as district secretary.
The winter meeting was a chance for the HHS FCCLA chapter to experience S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Action with Recognition) event competition. Five Holyoke teams earned two silver and three bronze medals.
Scores at the district level have no effect on state standings, so the competition is a good way to give students an idea of how much work is needed to perfect their projects in the coming months.
FCCLA projects and their district standings are as follows:
Applied technology, hearing loss, Matthew Golden and Jeremy Loutensock, silver; senior parliamentary procedure, Mallory Bennett, Briar Bergner, Becca Brandt, Brian DeBoer, Cody Fricke, Catrina Krueger, Ella Stewart and Marci Vasa, silver.
Junior focus on children, children’s health, Tia Huffman and Brittney Prottsman, bronze; junior illustrated talk, less waste in the cafeteria, Jacinda Krueger and Malena McWilliams, bronze.
Junior parliamentary procedure, Trevor Dalton, Brenda Hernandez, Alyssa Killin, Maddie King, Audi Peña, Natali Rodriguez, Logan Tharp and Jacob Vasa, bronze.
Jordan Zeiler also attended the winter meeting as a district and state officer interviewing panel member.
The FCCLA chapter will attend the state conference in Denver April 7-9.
