HHS boys’ basketball team came off the Christmas break with a loss, 40-45, to Chase County, Neb. Friday, Jan. 7 and a win, 60-54, over Wiggins Saturday, Jan. 8.
Holyoke 40, Chase Co. 45
The Longhorns visited Holyoke Friday and handed the home team a 40-45 loss.
Chase County jumped ahead 4-16 after the first quarter and the Dragons couldn’t quite claw back into the game. They trailed 18-31 at the half and 26-44 heading into the final quarter.
Holyoke outscored the visitors 14-1 in the final period to climb within five but time ran out on the comeback.
Deyten Klein led scoring with 16 points followed by Jaydin Goldenstein eight, Trevor Dalton seven, Logan Tharp four, Tanner Smith three and Saul Ramos two.
Holyoke 60, Wiggins 54
The Dragons avenged their loss a night earlier by overcoming Wiggins 60-54.
Just as the previous night, Holyoke fell behind after the opening quarter, 9-16. However, the Dragons fought back to score 25 second-quarter points to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
Both teams had trouble finding points in the third quarter and the Tigers led 41-40 after three. Again, Holyoke answered with a big period putting 20 points on the scoreboard and giving up 13 to their opponent.
Goldenstein led all scorers with 19 points. Dalton had 14, Brett Cumming 10, Tharp nine and Klein eight.
