|Horse rater training to be held in January|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
The Colorado 4-H horse program needs knowledgeable horse owners, riders, trainers and 4-H leaders to step up and become approved raters.
The riding levels program is meant to be a testing ground and not all youth will pass on the first try. By becoming trained, one will know the philosophy behind the program, when and how to pass or dismiss a rider and how to assist them in reaching attainable goals through riding and training their horse.
Participants will also be taken through each of the riding test steps and shown what it looks like when a rider performs a maneuver correctly versus incorrectly.
Once the training is completed, people will be put on a list that Extension Agents can use when hiring raters in their area. Raters typically receive compensation.
The training will be held Jan. 22, 2011 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Logan County Fairgrounds Exhibit Center.
