Seven teams reported for a successful Larry Stroh Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Holyoke Saturday, Dec. 11.

When the coaches’ votes were in, Outstanding Wrestlers (OW) for the day were both from Holyoke. Mark Edmonds won the lower weight OW award and Broc Pelle was the upper weight OW.

Coach Jack Garrison said the Holyoke kids wrestled well in the tournament which was changed to a dual tourney format this year.

Edmonds, Pelle and Skyler Dittmer were all undefeated in their matches Saturday, while Parker Redfern and Jesus Hermosillo were 4-1 in their weekend bouts.

With only seven wrestlers competing in the dual tournament, Holyoke gave up a number of forfeits, which hurt the team’s total score.

HHS earned 96.5 points in the tourney, said coach Garrison.

Top three teams were announced at the close of Saturday’s event. Eaton won with 316 points, followed by Ponderosa with 229 and Sedgwick County with 158. Also competing were Yuma, Wray and Greeley Central.

In its five duals, HHS met every team except Greeley Central.

It gave the wrestlers some good experience before heading into the 12th Annual Old Chicago Northern Colorado Christmas Tournament this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17-18 at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. More than 50 teams are scheduled to compete in the tournament which will be full of talent.

“This weekend will be a big test for us,” said Garrison.

During mat tear-down and gym clean-up after Saturday’s tournament, individual score sheets were misplaced. As a result, coach Garrison apologized detailed results are not available.

Match information for Dragon wrestlers follows:

140 lbs.—Skyler Dittmer had an undefeated 5-0 day, winning with three pins and two tech-falls for a very good day, according to coach Garrison.
