Chief Deputy District Attorney Brittny Lewton has been named Assistant District Attorney and assumed the number two spot Wednesday, Dec. 1.
“Brittny has been a true superstar for our office,” District Attorney Robert Watson said.
Lewton began her legal career as an intern, then progressed to county court prosecutor, district court prosecutor, drug task-force prosecutor and most recently the Chief Deputy responsible for the prosecution of sex assaults throughout the 13th Judicial District.
The new position will provide Lewton with the opportunity to begin learning the many non-courtroom responsibilities of a district attorney that are not normally experienced by a line prosecutor.
“Her demonstrated track record proves she will master her new duties as quickly as she has every other responsibility that has been handed to her,” Watson said. “Beginning this process now, two years before my term of office expires will help insure a smooth transition.”
In addition to serving the seven-county region of the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Lewton and her husband Brian run a wheat farm in Washington County. They have two children, Alexis and Tristen.
“Her roots in this district are strong, and she understands the needs and concerns of law enforcement and the community better than anyone,” Watson added.
