The sixth annual Colorado Ag Classic will be held Dec. 8-9 at the Embassy Suites in Loveland. The Colorado Ag Classic is the joint convention of the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG), the Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA), Colorado Sunflower Administrative Committee (CSAC), Colorado Sorghum Producers (CSP), Colorado Seed Growers Association (CSGA) and Colorado Seed Industry Association (CSIA).
The convention theme is “Together We Achieve More.” The convention will begin on the evening of Dec. 8 with a legislative social, dinner and an auction to benefit CAWG and CCGA’s state and national legislative efforts.
Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture John Stulp will kick off the general session on the morning of Dec. 9, followed by keynote speakers Troy and Stacy Hadrick, nationally known as Advocates for Agriculture, with “Discovering Your Influential Power.” They will be followed by Colorado Governor-elect John Hickenlooper and U.S. Representative-elect Cory Gardner, 4th Congressional District.
Breakout sessions on Dec. 9 begin at 8 a.m. and include the choice of a worker’s compensation safety meeting or grain marketing with Dan Maltby, manager of Southwest Grain Operations for General Mills; this will be Dan’s fourth year at Ag Classic.
The afternoon session includes a repeat of the grain marketing presentation; ground and surface water management; truck weight limits; effective media interactions; the connection between farm fertilizer and Rocky Mountain National Park; “AgLet,” a tool for evaluating ag water lease options; spill prevention, control and countermeasure; truck safety inspections; and herbicide-tolerant sorghum.
A trade show will also take place during the Colorado Ag Classic. Representatives from agricultural business from around the state will be present to answer questions on their products.
