|National Survivors of Suicide Day is Nov. 20|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
It’s a startling fact. By the end of today, approximately 96 people in the United States will take their own lives. 1,500 more will try to do so. What does that mean? It means every minute of every day someone in America is attempting suicide. And every 15 minutes, someone succeeds. In Colorado alone, approximately 940 individuals take their life each year.
It’s a subject that is shrouded in misunderstanding, fear and sometimes shame for those impacted by it. For those left behind, the survivors of suicide, it can mean unbearable grief and isolation.
A National Survivors of Suicide Day will be held on Nov. 20 for anyone who has been forever changed by the death of a loved one by suicide. On this day, survivors across the nation will take time to remember their loved ones and network with others who have had similar loses.
Locally, Rural Solutions will be hosting a balloon release Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at Columbine Park in Sterling.
