Blye's Quest Benefit is huge success PDF Print E-mail

More than 700 meals were served, auction bidders were plentiful as well as generous, and community members supported Blye McCallum wholeheartedly in the Nov. 12 Benefit Dinner and Auctions.

5-year-old Blye’s trip to Germany for specialized therapy in February is official, thanks to the generosity of this community. Blye’s parents, Gary and Andrea, publicly expressed their appreciation twice during Friday evening’s event, both times overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity shown to them. Donations have been given by way of Bushels for Blye in the 2010 harvests, cash donations at First Pioneer National Bank and contributions to both the Silent Auction and Live Auction, as well as the dinner last Friday.

Committee members passed their initial goal for fund raising for the McCallums and are thrilled with the additional opportunities the generosity of the community will provide.

Blye, a smiling, easy-to-love little guy, has wound his way into many hearts in the community. That was easy to see as he met and mingled at Friday night’s event.

Following the delicious meal of brisket and pulled pork, a big surprise for Blye found members of Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department working their way to the young man. They stopped by to say hello, drop off some gifts and wish him good luck. Blye adores firemen, and when those bright yellow uniforms approached him, he was quite excited. With their hats and headgear, they weren’t recognizable to Blye, but when they realized this, they took off their hats and Blye saw he actually knew the guys.
