|Leg. correspondence on FOCA urged|
|Written by Cherrie Brown|
I heard an amazing woman speak last night at A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center fund raiser. Her name is Gianna Jessen and she spoke with humor of such things that would have killed most people.
She should never have been able to survive, let alone walk and have a life. Her miracle of life, her blessing of cerebral palsy, as she calls it, is a result of a failed abortion. She believes the Lord loves her and has a special job for her each and every day that she definitely shares very passionately. She continues to have a loving spirit from the Lord which came through her message even as she spoke of the woman who tried to abort her at 7 1/2 months of pregnancy and told her three years ago that she was an embarrassment.
I call Gianna a miracle of God, and wish I could tell her mother how blessed she is to have shared in the creation of a special gift from Him for the world.
I keep wondering who will defend the babies? Gianna shared that 50 million abortions have been performed so far! Congress is considering passage of The Freedom of Choice Act or FOCA. FOCA brings about a national abortion policy far worse than the U. S. Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade decision.
For the first time, abortion would become an entitlement the government must fund and promote. What if our hospitals do not want to perform abortions, would they then lose federal funding? I pray this doesn’t work the way federal funding for highways are passed down.
On Friday, Jan. 23, President Obama signed the Mexico City Policy that allows Federal funding of abortions in other countries.
Simply put, if FOCA becomes law, it will put at risk all the widely-supported laws that for 35 years have promoted women’s health, ensured informed consent, protected minors, ensured parental involvement, safe guarded rights of conscience and respected the desire of most citizens not to support abortion with their tax dollars.
We have lost Marilyn Musgrave and Bob Schaffer, which puts fear in my heart for the babies they tried so successfully and tirelessly to save. It makes a knot in my stomach to think what is coming if we don’t speak up. President Obama encourages the opportunity to be active in democracy, so how can we sit by so quietly?
These are life-changing world events happening right in front of our eyes, and we sit quietly by like the world did for so long when the Jews died! I have to ask, how many more babies have to die before we do something? Isn’t 50 million enough? How dare we be silent?
I have to question the reasoning behind the gun control laws coming, when we are just defending ourselves. The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will aggressively kill far more lives than defending ourselves ever did. Who will defend the babies? I pray for the Lord to change the hearts of both Democrats and Republicans to speak the truth now, or it will be too late.
What has happened to the 10 Commandments? Did they remove them from the buildings in Washington D.C.? Gianna talked of the wisdom we can learn from history and our past. She read from page 281 of “America’s God and Country,” written by William J. Federer, the rules and precepts that were observed at Harvard University in 1642, and her comments were also that we have forgotten history and rewritten it with our own desires.
I think she is right, we are doing that today. We can only change that by examining our own hearts, asking the Lord for forgiveness and trying to speak up for the history we have forgotten. My history comes from Jesus. I do not need government creating more laws that make no sense. The love of Jesus will save babies, so how can we help Him is my question now.
Dead things do not grow! I can think and reason on my own! I also still have my entrepreneur spirit, as Gianna does, to think and create a better world. Do you? If not who will be next? The people who are old and can’t serve through volunteerism any more? These great people have given their whole life in service to one another like we all do in small towns. Who will protect us if we no longer fit the criteria set forth by the government?
So what do you think? Do you think we will speak up for the precious innocent lives of unborn babies? Gianna asked, if the Freedom of Choice Act protects the woman, then who protected her as a baby? I know the answer and I also know He requires me to do something to help others like Gianna, who will also some day spread the love of Jesus so passionately!
Gianna could have been protected by the Born Alive Protection Act which is now in place. The Freedom of Choice Act will rescind the Born Alive Protection Act. Will you write your U.S. Senators and House of Representatives? Please see the ad in this week’s paper for addresses.
Blessings for another awesome week of service to the Lord.
