|Weather causes weekend damage|
|Written by Holyoke Enterprise|
The first major storms of the summer rolled through the area this past weekend. Heavy amounts of rain were received Friday, Saturday and Sunday all around Phillips County. Two miles east of Amherst, six REA poles succumbed to high winds and were blown over.
Weather observer Gordon Leben said he lost power around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night due to the broken poles and Highline Electric had power back up by midnight. He isn’t sure if a small tornado or a microburst took the poles down. Winds were continually gusting at 50-55 m.p.h. Saturday night.
Holyoke received a total of 2.05 inches of rain from the weekend storms.
