Council election set for April 6 PDF Print E-mail

Three candidates filed nomination petitions for three City Council seats up for election Tuesday, April 6.

The candidates met the March 12 deadline and another entered as a write-in candidate, City Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Olofson said at the Tuesday, March 16 City Council meeting.

Incumbent JC Peckham, Frostteana Elmquist and Steve Moore all filed petitions for candidacy. Brian Akey met the deadline to be considered as a write-in candidate.

Council members officially changed the date of the next meeting to accommodate for the election. The next meeting will be Monday, April 5. They also set wages for 2010 election judges at $10/hr.

Reports of city officials

The issue of trucks parking on Holyoke side streets for long periods of time was questioned by council members. Police Chief Phil Biersdorfer said they have been working on the issues and have been in contact with the owners of the trucks.

Olofson said the panic buttons have been installed within the city office. She also mentioned Scott Szabo from Lauer, Szabo and Associates was in the office completing the 2009 audit.

Councilman Jerry Banaka said there was a request from some city employees to replace their flame retardant or FR gear, as some of it is getting worn out. Council members made note to inform City Supt. Mark Brown as he was absent from the meeting.

Other business

In other business March 16, council members:

—approved a donation request to Phillips County Economic Development Corp.

—approved a liquor license renewal for The Skillet.

—approved travel request for Biersdorfer to attend Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee conference.

—held a 50-minute executive session for the purpose of a conference with the city attorney for the purpose of receiving legal advice on specific legal issues.
