Welcome to my first monthly article, intended for our senior population.

My name is Erin LeBlanc and I am the new Senior Service Coordinator (and soon to be Ombudsman) for Phillips County. My family and I have recently relocated to Holyoke from Southern California, and are settling in quite nicely.

My previous experience was the Director of Community Relations for a large assisted living community. I enjoyed talking to seniors and their families about opportunities and a lifestyle of living that could be provided to them.

Because of my previous employer, I have high expectations for our senior population and being an advocate for them, making sure there is awareness of services that are available, personal rights and treating each individual with the highest dignity.

Each month I will provide information that I hope will be helpful to you.

Senior Day at the Capital is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24 in the Old Supreme Court Chambers at the state capital. A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and lunch at 12:00 noon. Those wishing to attend are requested to mail reservations by Feb. 17 to:

Colorado Senior Lobby

1420 Ogden Street

Denver, CO 80218

A panel of legislators and program administrators will be discussing current and future impacts on the senior population. Questions or further information can be received by calling Colorado Senior Lobby, Inc. (CSL) at 303-832-4535. A flyer is also posted at each of the meal sites.

If you need County Express tickets, please contact me.

Meet and Eat is held Monday through Friday at the Sunset View Community Center in Holyoke and Wednesday and Friday at the Community Center in Haxtun.

Meet and Eat is a wonderful opportunity to have a hot-cooked meal and also socialize with others. My goal is to make more seniors aware of Meet & Eat and help to grow the attendance.

Just a reminder: when a disaster happens, the scams start coming out. So be aware of “companies” that may contact you for donations.

My contact information is: Erin LeBlanc, 854-2949. I look forward to being there for you.
