HHS sophomore Jordan Zeiler joined three Sterling girls to win the 400-free relay in a state-qualifying time while hosting Estes Park Thursday, Jan. 28.
It was the last race of the day and the last of the regular season. Zeiler rested and swam on the relay instead of doing the 100 back, and the team dropped the necessary time to qualify, said coach Adria Colver.
SHS also celebrated Senior Night last Thursday, with Nicole Brandt being recognized for her efforts and contributions to the team.
Everyone was tired from practice, no one was rested, but they swam well, said coach Colver, including junior Brandi Orand. However, Estes Park won the dual 103-80.
In individual events last Thursday, Zeiler finished fourth in both the 50 free and 100 free.
Also pulling in extra points were Amy Krogmeier who took fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 individual medley; and Pam McWilliams, fourth in the 400 free.
Zeiler and Krogmeier also swam on the second-place 200 free relay.
Sterling vs. Silver Creek
Swimming tiredly Tuesday, Jan. 26, the girls lost 57-119 to a strong Silver Creek team from Longmont at Centennial, said coach Adria Colver.
Zeiler placed fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 back for the Sterling team, Krogmeier took two fifths in the 100 free and 100 breast and McWilliams finished fifth in the 500 free.
Zeiler also competed on the second-place 200 free relay team. Also swimming for Holyoke were Brandt and Orand.
Conference swimming competition is scheduled Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6 at Greeley Rec Center as the 2009-10 girls’ swim season nears the end. The state meet is set for Feb. 12-13 at Mountain View in Loveland.
