Construction on the new Phillips County Event Center should be wrapped up by the end of the month, reported County Commissioner Bud Biesemeier. There are just a lot of little things left to do, he said.
While the building isn’t completely done, enough progress was made for two events to take place in the big room Saturday, Nov. 14—Extension’s small ruminant program during the day and Pheasants Forever annual banquet that evening.
In addition to the big Event Center room, the west side of the building has a large kitchen area, a sound system, an office for the Phillips County Arts Council and restrooms that are also accessible from the fairgrounds to the north.
The entry way will display artwork from the Arts Council as well as a wall with Event Center donors. The middle of the building has a large storage area with cement walls that can be used as a storm shelter.
The east side is the education wing with a large area for Dragon’s Wagon Preschool as well as classrooms and a computer lab for Phillips County Family Education Services. Extension offices will also be located at the Event Center with additional rooms to be used for teaching 4-H classes. There are also restrooms that can be accessed from Homesteaders Park.
Biesemeier said they are waiting on a grant to finish the landscaping and parking lot. Two driveways curving up to the building will be used for drop offs, and a water runoff system will utilize a retention pond to the south of the building.
