Holyoke Lady Dragons finished their regular season with two big wins on their home volleyball court over Haxtun Thursday, Oct. 22 and Wray Friday, Oct. 23.

“It was great to finish the season with all wins over two nights on our home court!” said coach Sandra Rahe, with both JV and C teams winning their games last week as well.

The varsity team is on a five-game winning streak heading into district action this weekend, ranked third in the league.

“Varsity played consistent against both teams,” said Rahe. “We didn’t falter through the two nights of play.”

In competition against Haxtun, the Dragons claimed the victory in three games winning 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17.

Facing Wray on Friday night, HHS lost the first game 22-25 but came back to win the next three games 25-18, 25-13 and 25-15.

In attacks against Wray, Marissa Smith had 44 with nine kills, and Kendra Timm had 35 with 13 kills. Chasity Pelle led in serving with 26 for 20 points including three aces.

Timm totaled two solo blocks and eight assisted blocks, Pelle five assisted blocks and Nora Roth two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Pelle had 68 sets including 29 assists for kills.

In digs, Timm had 28, Smith 23 and Elise Nelson 19. Timm led in serve receives with 16, Megan Colglazier 14, Kimberly Peña 12 and Smith 10.

Rahe noted the seven seniors on the team were recognized on Thursday night. They include Roth, Smith, Pelle, Timm, Peña, Nelson and Colglazier.

“I feel privileged to have worked with these girls for the last six years,” said Rahe. “They are not just exceptional athletes but also wonderful young women. They are role models for my own children, and I am so proud of who they are on and off the court.”

She added parents and community members should be proud of not just what they accomplish in wins and losses but also that they are hard working, coachable and persistent athletes.

Looking back on the season, Rahe expressed her gratitude for parents and supporters who have encouraged the team throughout the year.

JV and C teams play

With no C team game against Haxtun, the JV team played best three out of five games. They won in four games 25-16, 21-25, 25-4 and 25-21.

Against Wray, JV won 25-14 and 25-17 while the C team found victory 25-17 and 25-13.
